Farm to Market Road 16, or FM 16 is a farm to market road, a state maintained road which serves to connect rural and agricultural areas to market towns, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located in Van Zandt and Smith counties. The road is 42 miles (68 km) long.[1]

Route description

The road begins at an intersection with SH 64 just west of Colfax, Texas. From there, it goes east through Colfax and Van, intersecting Interstate 20 at an interchange. From Van, the road continues east along SH 110 passing through the towns of Garden Valley, Hideaway, Lindale, Red Springs, and Winona, where it has a brief concurrency with SH 155. From Winona, the road continues east to the eastern terminus at US 271.[1][2]

History

FM 16 was originally established in 1942 from Colfax to Van, replacing a part of SH 243. The road was extended to the current eastern terminus just west of Colfax and eastward to Lindale in 1945. It was extended to Winona in 1947, and extended to its current length in in 1948.
